Only kidding of course, Bran Flakes FTW, i used to think they were for health freaks, but then again i never really ate coco pops or frosties or anything like that. The nice thing about Bran Flakes is there like a combination of Shreddies and Cornflakes. But this is all irrelevant. There were two things i wanted to mention in this Blog
- Vegetarians: A while ago i watched a you tube video from this Canadian film maker with the user name "FactvsReligion", now typically she does videos poking fun at Creationists (e.g Earth only 6000 years old and Noah lived to be 900 years old and that lizards turn into dinosaurs if they live long enough) But this time she talked about a vote she held to see if Atheist typically were vegetarian. I would consider myself an atheist but i never really thought about it making me a vegetarian. Any who her reason for not eating meat is that she decided to eat and survive whilst causing the least suffering to those things she eats as possible. Fair enough i thought i never really think about the treatment of the animals we breed to eat. Some interesting stats for you, 7trillion (approx) chickens have been eaten since the start of the year and that because of high protein feeds the average chicken now grows to edible stage in 42 days. As a result of this fast growth there skeletons cannot cope with the result that they can barely support there own weight. I suppose that's mainly battery farms and I'm lucky in that my parents tend to only buy organic when possible. But to the point of this "FactvsReligion" thought that being atheist influenced you more into being a vegetarian, but for me its the other way around i think of everything that is alive as deserving of life, be it plants animals or bugs. If you eat nothing but plants then we'll end up taking all available land annd using it for crops which will result in a mass reduction in grazing animals. Therefore it is only fair to be an omnivore so that at least your spreading it around and not upsetting the balance. Part of being atheist for me is the idea of equality and what FactvsFiction says is in my mind unequal as it is saying that of the living things plants have less of a right to life than animals.
- Point no. 2 a while back i read a book called American Gods by Niel Gaiman (bit of an unfortunate name) in a side chapter to the main story he discussed the phrase "no man is an island" the idea that no one should isolate them selves from the problems of the world and the people around them. The authors case was that in fact everyone should be an island to some extent as the problems of the world if we look at them all at once all the time would drive a man insane. The amount of shit that happens is too much and really the bestwe should and can be expected to do is deal with our own problems.
