There Will Be Blood

Without doubt my favourite film of all time. OF ALL TIME.
I'm not sure what i like more about this movie. It reminds me of lots of things. Mainly 2001 a Space Odyssey which i remember mainly for the long periods of silence interspersed with single notes. A lot of films make the mistake of using music to replace acting in order to create feelings of emotion. This just pisses me off half the time.

Something I've really liked since i went to America a while ago is things that are set in a vast background, whilst the characters are so awesome they dwarf it. John Steinbeck's book the grapes of wrath also reminds me of this. The long journey they go on over vast distances for a futile goal that deep down you know they know is futile. Firefly is similar, both in its western influence and the ship Serenity. Neither do these shows hide away from the reality they're based in. In Firefly the characters are not immune to bullets (although they do get shot a bit to much). In 2001 everyone dies, in Grapes of Wrath, everyone who remains at the end dies.

Its not that i like snuff films its just that I'm sick and tired of knowing that whatever the situation the hero will survive.

On the light side, I am looking forward to Wednesday, not only will i only have two exams left, but the British and Irish Lions will be playing again. I fucking love rugby, which makes me even more sad when the only rugby game on the xbox sucks and was 3 years out of date when it was released in 2005. Its ridiculous EA spend shit loads on Nascar games. All it would take is someone to use the Madden game engine, make some tweaks and you'd have a halfway decent game. They think that Rugby doesn't sell games but really shit rugby games don't sell. A good one will.

If you like Rugby and want to see more then i leave you with a link to a blog that you can follow from this website that has hundreds of clips and highlights for your enjoyment
